Exchange 2007: Number of users supported on single server?
Nov 8 2007, 1:18 PM EST Something i've been trying to find, but unable to do so. Anyone have an idea of how many users one Exchange 2007 server can support? Im designing our new Exchange 2007 setup. Our current Exchange 2003 setup has about 2100 users. However, I need to plan for around 4000 users (company is growing that fast) over the course of the next two years. So my question is, how many users could a Exchange 2007 server, having the mailbox role only support? (I would break out the client access and hub roles to different servers). Was also of thinking of using CCR for our cluster, or perhaps SCR. Thanks. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Exchange 2007: Number of users supported on single server?
Nov 9 2007, 3:40 PM EST What kind of server are you planning to use? The number of users supported will depend on a number of factors. Such as: 1) Nature of users (Light, Medium, Heavy?) - This impacts I/O, memory and processor sizing. 2) Amount of system RAM - Since Exchange 2007 is a 64-bit application it can now utilize upto 32GB of RAM efficiently. Depending on the nature of users an certain amount of RAM/user may be suitable. 3) Storage topology - Are you plannin gon using internal storage, DAS, SAN? 4) Mailbox size 4) HA options such as CCR, SCC, SCR. DAS storage may be suitable for CCR. You can try out different sizing options using the Dell Exchange Advisor Tool: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/sitelets/solutions/messaging/exchange_2007?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz With Exchange 2007, since each user can use more RAM, the number of users supported per server depends greatly on the amount on system RAM the server can support. Let me know if there are any specific questions. Do you find this valuable? |
