sbuu SOI support redhat linux distros
Nov 12 2008, 2:38 PM EST I booted up the Oct 2008 Dell "Systems Management Tools and Documentation" dvd. I tried the server os installation option from the sbuu menu. I note it only support linux redhat version 4.5 and redhat 5.2. What if I want to use a different version eg. redhat 5.1 or 4.6 ? Do you find this valuable? |

RE: sbuu SOI support redhat linux distros
Nov 12 2008, 7:40 PM EST Due to time constraints it would be impossible to fully test and support every version of every linux distribution. Therefore a subset is picked that is most likely to be installed at a customer's site at the point of time of the release. The full list is here -- http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/smsom/5.5/en/peosom/installa.htm#wp999358 Just from this matrix you can see the number of combinations that have to be tested to be "officially supported". That doesn't mean that other combinations won't "work", you can usually get other flavors of linux to work with the drivers from the support site. But it just won't be officially supported. Hope that helps. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: sbuu SOI support redhat linux distros
Nov 13 2008, 9:58 AM EST Thanks for info; i had forgotten about the support matrix documentation. I can probably do what I want using dtk, but not sure how to proceed with the sbuu software. Do you find this valuable? |
