Will windows move the files across at wire speed?
Aug 12 2008, 6:08 PM EDT Hey everyone, I'm copy/pasting straight from my customers email on this one.... I have a windows server connected to a AX100 (SAN-1). It has mounted a 2 TB volume (drive letter E:). What if I attached another AX100 (SAN-2) to the same server and mount 2TB volume (drive letter F:) and then drag the files from E: to F: Will windows move the files across at wire speed? Thanks in advance, Brian 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Will windows move the files across at wire speed?
Aug 15 2008, 12:45 AM EDT Brian, It will not be able to move the files at wire speed, but the question is how close can it get? I have sent an email to a storage expert that I know here at Dell to see if he can answer this one. Thanks, Todd 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Will windows move the files across at wire speed?
Aug 27 2008, 10:21 AM EDT Brian, with copying from one AX100 to an other AX100 you are still partially dependent on the server utilization (Host copy). You also have to consider the drive type and raid group configuration on the AX100 these can all limit the copy speed. On CX arrays SAN Copy or Mirrorview can bypass the host and copy the data directly from one array to an other without any dependence on the host. SAN copy-E is an optional feature on the AX100 systems but you can only copy data from an AX to a CX system. Do you find this valuable? |
