MD3000i Snapshot vs. Virtual Disk Copy
Jul 31 2008, 6:14 PM EDT We have an MD3000i with SAS and SATA drives. I want to backup the volumes on the SAS drives to the SATA drives. Is a Snapshot good enough for a backup? i.e. If the SAS raid array failed, would I be able to recover all the data from the last snapshot on the SATA drives or do I have to do a disk copy to do that? What is the difference between a Snapshot and Virtual Disk Copy? Thanks, Greg Do you find this valuable? |

RE: MD3000i Snapshot vs. Virtual Disk Copy
Aug 5 2008, 10:38 AM EDT A snapshot is not good enough for a backup. It relies on the original and only stores the changes. You can create a backup from a snapshot by mounting a snapshot and copying or doing a backup of this snap image. A copy is a complete copy of the data that has no dependence on the original. Does this answer your question? Let me know if you want more details. Thanks, Todd 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
