| ahongens | M600 onboard broadcom license key missing after upgrade | Blades | 1 | Today, 7:15 AM EDT by ahongens | ||||

If have 8 identical M600's for a project, all with the 2 onboard broadcoms with iscsi offload (which means there should be a license key on the mainboard?), and an extra dual port ethernet module. First 2 are for iSCSI, second 2 for normal networking.
For this project I want to start experimenting again using the iscsi offload instead of the software initiator on this M600. I have also setup iSCSI offload on M610's with Win2008 x64, no problems yet. There are 2 M600's I want to change, these are Win2003x64 machines. One production database server, and a staging. I have started working on the staging machine. Since I had quite some previous problems with the broadcoms (the broadcom's did not understand Equallogic's redirect messages, and disconnected the LUNs every few minutes), I decided to upgrade all of the blade's software. It works fine on my M610's, so I hope that with new software everything will work fine. So I upgraded the M600's BIOS to 2.1.4, and the 4 NIC firmwares now says boot code 4.6.2, iscsi boot v 3.0.6 according to BACS, and driver version 4.6.110.0 (bacs). However, now the licenses are missing in BACS for TOE and iSCSI. They both say '0 connections' in the licences section, and the offload adapters are missing :( Here's a screenshot: http://files.hongens.nl/2009/06/18/Picture8.png I'm sure they were there before the upgrade.. I rebooted the machine several times, did a power down and power up, checked all bios settings, etc. I can't find a way to troubleshoot this license problem. The 2 add-in nics do have the TOE license enabled, but no iSCSI license, which is correct. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can start up a case with support as well, but I want to ask here first.

We have a md3000i and it works great. I have one problem with a windows 2008 cluster. I try and give one node in the cluster a lun from the md3000i and it will see the lun as offline. I can't bring it online or format the new lun. I am not trying to use it as a shared lun in the cluster but as a local drive. Does it have to do with SCSI-3 Persistent Reservation that is required by windows 2008? Does the md3000i support SCSI-3 Persistent Reservation? Thanks for any advice.

Hi, One of our clients would like to have the iDRAC IP Address displayed on the R610 or R710 Front LCD Panel.
Can this be done? They dont want to have to go through LCD menu's. The idea is that if an issue occurs on a Server, any individual can read the iDRAC IP Address and let Tech Support know to which iDRAC to connect quickly.

I've had great success with importing the drivers included in the CAB files for the various models supported. But I had these errors pop up:
Error: Failed to import the following drivers: \\[server]\Source$\Drivers\OptiPlex-960-XP-A00\XP\x64\chipset\R197547\IntelAMTPP.inf - The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver. \\[server]\Source$\Drivers\OptiPlex-960-XP-A00\XP\x64\network\R162314\oemsetup.inf - The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver. \\[server]\Source$\Drivers\OptiPlex-960-XP-A00\XP\x86\chipset\R197547\IntelAMTPP.inf - The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver. \\[server]\Source$\Drivers\OptiPlex-960-XP-A00\XP\x86\network\R162313\oemsetup.inf - The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver. Error: Failed to import the following drivers: \\[server]\Source$\Drivers\OptiPlex-960-Vista-A00\Vista\x64\Chipset\R197547\IntelAMTPP.inf - The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver. \\[server]\Source$\Drivers\OptiPlex-960-Vista-A00\Vista\x86\chipset\R197547\IntelAMTPP.inf - The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver. So I noticed that there's a newer driver for AMT for the OptiPlex 960 Vista(R218459), and downloaded and attempted to import it. Again, I got this error: Error: Failed to import the following drivers: \\[server]\Source$\Drivers\OptiPlex-960-Vista-A00\Vista\x86\chipset\r218459\NAC_PP\IntelAMTPP.inf - The selected file is not a valid Windows device driver. Am I the only one getting this error? Is there anything I can do to avoid it? Thanks. |

Hi,
Read Policy: Adaptive Read Ahead Write Policy: Write Back Disk Cache Policy: ( Enabled / Disabled ) - This is here my problem is ... I can't really find any information on this setting? on other pages they mention something about "Cache I/O" and "Direct I/O" ... is this a new name for theese 2 or ? If not ... what are they ? Are there still problems with the read/write policy in SQL environment ? I'm running a Windows 2008 Hyper-V server ... with a few guest ... one of them being a SQL Server ... what should the settings be ? Are the above safe ? some sites suggests turning Read policy off. Any feedback is most velcome. best regards Mikael Syska |

Hi All,
Just a quick one, I have struggled to find comprehensive documentation on boot from SAN configurations. I have got it working however I am unsure about the setup. I have multiple QLogic adapters and obviously only one can be used as a boot adapter at one time however do I still enable both so that in the event of a path failure or card error the server will reboot and automatically detect the redundant path? Thanks in advance....

After install DMC1.0 with license ID. We can see "Altiris Inventory for Network Devices" @ Symantec License Manager. This license item appear expire date " 2009/09/07". If customer pass the expire date,doesn't work for network discovery ? or just come up warning message to activate license key? Please let me know how to support on this case.

| 909485 | R900 using Qlogic FC | Discussion Forum | 1 | Monday, 6:10 PM EDT by scott_hanson | ||||

Thread started: Monday, 12:05 PM EDT

On the R900 servers we've been looking at, could you have someone verify that the chipset is the Intel 7300? From my research, this appears to be PCI-e v1 not PCI-e v2. Can you confirm this? The QLogic FC boards are v2 PCI-e cards. They'll downgrade to v1 but I will loose performance in that configuration. I've been really struggling to locate the exact technical specifications on the R900 series so my information may be incorrect. If you have something that actually talks about how the board works with 4x CPUs from a technical standpoint, it would help a lot.
I'm also interested in the configuration you are using as it relates to a snoop filter (cache coherency) to reduce cross CPU chatter. I haven't found any documentation on this other than a brief mention by IBM that Dell's config is not as advanced. Naturally, I'd like to have your input on the subject.

Hi Jeff,
Are you considering that there's only one switch sitting between the server and the MD3000i? If that's true, how the configuration would change if there were two switches in two different networks connecting the servers to the storage array (eg: MD3000i, AX4-5i)? What about the two switches connected together to form a single network (LAGs between them, as some arrays require this setup)? And finally, I'd like to see an example of the configuration commands for a pair of switches stacked together for iSCSI traffic (eg: PowerConnect M6220, PowerConnect 6224) connected to teamed adapters on the servers (eg: ESX). Too much to ask? I'm sure a few DELL users will find it helpful, as there's not too much information about the optimal configuration for the iSCSI network using DELL switches. Thanks in advance, Tony

I'm trying to cascade/tiere our M1000e iKVM with our new Avocent Autoview 1515 KVM switch. The 1515 is the main switch, the iKVM is the tiered switch. I'm not seeing anything on the OSCAR menu of the 1515 when I plug them together (ACI port on the iKVM to one of the 8 ports on the 1515). Anybody else successfully caccaded the M1000e iKVM with external analog switches?

Seriously guys, wtf. This is 2009 and as much as you love selling us new servers I don't enjoy putting in new hardware for every software package I have to deploy. Why no support for running this in a VM? It's great you have info on switching to the new platform here, but honestly until it's supported to run on a virtual platform I won't be touching it.
