DMC Agent Uptime reporting

I am looking into whether it would be possible to use DMC to report on the system uptime for some of our key servers using the Agent Uptime feature. I’ve installed the Altiris agent and Altiris Monitor agent on a test server which is now registered in DMC. The Uptime reports detect a full power down or server restart and also if you manually stop and start the Altiris agent service which is a start. I also need to monitor whether the server is in a disconnected state (affectively down) and have this reflected in the uptime report. I’ve done some testing by physically disconnecting the server from the network however this downtime is not picked up in the agent Uptime report. The alert I have configured for a disconnected state is working and I have also amended the metrics for this to 60 sec. The question I have is whether this is something that the Uptime feature is capable of recording or if this is limited purely to the Agent service uptime and not it’s connectivity to DMC.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
thanks
Darren

My disclaimer.....I inherited this infrastructure.<grin>
I want to enable Jumbo Frame.
I know how to Config jumbo frames on the m6220, EQL and The Power connect 5424(SAN ISCSI SWITCH)
It looks like on the M6220 in my chassis that they are NOT doing a LAP\ ether channel to the Power connect 5424 on the external switch ports connections on the M6220.
SHOULD I do a LAP from the M6220 to the 5424 or leave it with (4) 1 GB connections? I say LAP? Once I enable Jumbo Frames I need to set my ESX 4 host to accept Jumbo frames and any other servers that connect using the ISCSI NIC's to Jumbo Frames.
Just need some confirmation and any other words of wisdom.

I see a discussion about this dating back to 2009, I was hoping this was resolved in DDP 1.2.
This is on a new install of SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 on Windows 2008.
I've setup a basic Bare Metal Server Deployment task to deploy Windows 2008 std x64 to a new R610. I've advertised it to the All Unknown Computers collection. The TS is failing on the Set RebootStep portion after the 1st reboot (Task Sequence: xxxx has failed with error code (0x00000001). Looking at the smsts.log the error is "Failed to run the last action: Set RebootStep Variable. Execution has been aborted"

hi all, I need help to set the number of FC disks (300GB 15Krpm disks each) to be used with Raid 5 in a storage CX4-960 FC. It has 15 slots for disks, two controllers with 32GB of cache and must use a spare disk every 30 disks totaling 30TB of storage. how do I calculate the amount of disks to be used? I need to know which PDU also use the rack to energize this storage. There are several types of PDUs, but do not know which to use in this case. Sorry for the questions but I have no experience in this area of storage, ok? Thank you all!

the CX4-960 is requires 208V. That being said, if you are selling a system, it might be a good idea to get you in contact with someone who can help architect it correctly. There are numerous resources to make sure this is done right for the customer, including capacity calculator tools.

You can do it the old fashioned way with the Dell Systems Management Tools and Documentation (SMTD) DVD ... it is bootable media and has drivers for install ... however it's a big download :
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R250023&SystemID=PWE_R710&servicetag=&os=RH52&osl=en&deviceid=17861&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=36&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=368161
I haven't installed 5.2 on 710 here in the lab, but you might be able to just download the drivers you might need and use the 5.2 installation media, without downloading the whole SMTD.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=RH52&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PWE_R710&hidos=WNET&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=True&scanConsent=False
wow, URLs sure are ugly these days.

I have a problem that once in a while my touchpad stops working properly. It only works when I press another key at the same time, like the ALT key, to continue working it is easier to use a USB mouse until the problem at some point solve itself. I have installed drivers, checked the BIOS and all these kind of things, but start to believe that it is some kind of toggle that I inadvertently trigger by pressing Fn and F7 at the same time of something like this. (by the way Fn-F7 does not solve it). Any ideas ???

This VBScript will request a target system power state change via the iDRAC using the WS-Man protocol. The script takes as input the IP Address of the target system iDRAC, the username of an iDRAC identity with Execute Server Command privilege, the password for the username and the requested power state. Possible power states include 2=ON, 8=OFF, 5=Power Cycle, 12=Graceful Off, 15=Graceful Power Cycle. Here is the file: http://attachments.wetpaintserv.us/DeyIAG7fdRClOyoeWzic3w%3D%3D4848

Hi, I'm totally new to SAN as well as iSCSI. I am planning on getting a MD3000i to use as storage for all user data and a couple of databases as well as the vmdk files for vSphere ESXi servers. There will be 2 ESXi servers attached to it running a total of 6 virtual servers. Should the disk configuration offer all the raid setups that are required by the virtual serv ers? i.e. If some applications on some of the VMs need RAID10, some need some other version of RAID and some don't need RAID, then do I set up the MD3000i disks in this way in 3 groups? Cheers,

RE: Disk configuration

Hey Tangerine27, Welcome to the site.
I discussed this with Kong_Yang, our virtualization specialist on the site, and this was his suggestion:
I would recommend that the RAID be used for all applications even those not requiring RAID- for redundancy and data protection. With the MD3000i, you can create multiple RAID LUNs in each array using MDSM. With MDSM and ESX, they can manage which VMs and apps have access to particular LUNs.
I would ask the customer what their requirements & areas of importance are. The performance and disk capacity requirements will help size the # of disks needed in the RAID LUNs, the planning for hot spares, and will also guide them on which RAID type they should choose.
Ultimately for this customer’s situation, they can create 2 RAID disk groups per their application requirement. And put applications that don’t need RAID on RAID for data protection.

Which array are we talking about? Generally Raid 5 protects against 1 drive failing. If you had 2 disks fail at the same time in the array, essentially the data would be lost. With 2 disks failed the array would be offline and the hotspare would have nothing to rebuild from. Now what I have been able to do in the past is go through the logs (Open Manage) and try to see which drive failed first. Then take the 2nd drive to fail and force it back online and start a rebuild with the hotspare on the 1st drive to fail. But I would need more information before I would suggest you do something like that.

When I run the device configuration wizard in veritas it only see the tape drive not the changer. I have tried several attemps using the Microsoft driver for the changer and the dell driver as well. None seem to resolve the problem for the changer not being seen in veritas 9.1. Does anyone know where to get a step by step guide to do this install? Thanks for any help.
