Because the title of this page includes three acronyms, let's describe this topic a little better:
Deploy Dell OpenManage Client Instrumentation using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager with Microsoft System Center Updates Publisher. You currently use the
Microsoft® System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) suite, and you have Dell™ Latitude™, Optiplex™, or Precision™ workstation hardware. You can use the
Dell OpenManage™ Client Instrumentation (OMCI) tools to inventory and configure hardware settings, as discussed on the
Using OMCI with ConfigMgr page. You can
install OMCI using traditional Software Distribution with ConfigMgr (Package, Program, Advertisement). . .
If you are currently using the ConfigMgr software updates feature, take a look at the
Dell Updates Catalogs to see how to easily deploy Dell Updates (firmware, BIOS, video driver, an so on) with ConfigMgr. The Dell Updates Catalog for Business Clients does not currently support deploying OMCI. This page will step you through the process of creating a custom update to deploy OMCI.
Assumptions: You have a ConfigMgr 2007 environment, currently use the software updates feature, and have Microsoft System Center Updates Publisher (SCUP) 4.5 configured properly to publish updates:
- Download the latest version of OMCI (for our example, we'll download the x-64 version).
- Double-click the downloaded .exe (for example, DELL_OPENMANAGE-CLIENT-INSTR_A00_R214519.exe) to extract it (cancel the installation, if it starts automatically).
- We prefer to rename the .exe so that we can clearly see the version information (for example, setup_OMCI_7.6.1.763-x64_A00.exe).
- Copy setup_OMCI_7.6.1.763-x64_A00.exe to your standard SCUP repository to prepare to import into SCUP:
