Gordyhunter Laptop loses charge 0 Jun 4 2010, 11:36 PM EDT by Gordyhunter

I have an Inspiron 1000. Normally the display would get brighter when the power was disconnected and a little dimmer when charging or fully charged. Now its fully charged and plugged in. The display alternately gets dim for a few seconds and then bright. The battery charged percentage goes down. Any ideas what to replace? how to verify?
