Scott,
This was a good beginning, needs to be updated, but, one of OUR biggest issues with OpenManage (and, many other things Dell) is version confusion. Just as an example, I downloaded the latest (by date, from the FTP site SUU ISO, extracted it to a folder, and opened the ReadMe.txt, getting this (can't find a way to paste my nice screenshot, so, will have to do text): Name of ISO (from FTP site): OM_5.5.1_SUU_A00.ISO Folder name created when extracted (using ISOBuster, Nero, etc., same results): SUU_1.8.00018 Header of SUU_readme.txt: >>###################################################################### DELL(TM) OPENMANAGE(TM) SERVER UPDATE UTILITY 1.8.1 README ######################################################################<< First paragraph of SUU_readme.txt: >>This readme provides information for Dell OpenManage Server Update Utility version 1.8.2.<< So, not being that smart of a person, I'd be hard pressed to figure out what I wanted, where to get it, what I have, and, how would I know. If this was an isolated incident, then, I'd chalk it up to a bad Version Tracking Person (I presume Dell has a few of those), but, sadly, it's all too normal. To let you know how this all came about, I went to the link for SUU Documentation, which informed me there was a 1.8.2 version, then...I started looking ALL OVER for THAT version. Now multiply this by a LOT of products and drivers, etc., and, you should be able to feel my pain. Any thoughts on how the user base can assist Dell with getting this all fixed? Thanks! |
