Using IT Assistant to update OMSA agents

Last week I got an e-mail asking about updating Dell OpenManage Systems Administrator (OMSA) agents through IT Assistant. Since I had just done some testing with the firmware and BIOS updates, I simply shot back a quick, "Yeah, just generate a compliance report in the Software Updates and go from there."

Then of course I went to the interface to double check myself and bzzzzzzzt—incorrect answer. Which was quickly confirmed when the customer replied to the e-mail with the same conclusion. So this just proves that I'm learning as I go, just like some of you.

An e-mail back from one of the developers confirmed that OMSA agents get filtered out of the Repository because of some issues. The workaround is to create a report that is filtered on agent name and version, like this:

Systems Edge - The Dell TechCenter

Then you can create a software deployment task for OMSA in IT Assistant to perform the updates.

I guess I better get to work; look at the version on ora2650a ! -- 1.2.0

That 2650 has been a real workhorse for the lab. We have used it for a driver system, data collector, and who know what else as well as it's original purpose as an Oracle DB test server. It is one of my favorite servers.

And I agree that maybe we should update the BIOS.....
