| Zifnab | ASM Smart Copy with Exchange 2010 | 2 | Today, 7:23 PM EDT by Zifnab | ||||

Thread started: Yesterday, 1:53 PM EDT

Hi,
We are setting up a new Exchange 2010 infrastructure with two Exchange 2010 consolidated servers in two of our locations. The servers are setup in a DAG group and each replicate databases with one another. The server on our remote site has all local storage and the server at our main site has local storage for it's C: drive and connects to two iSCSI LUN's from our Equallogic SAN for the Exchange Logs and Database's. I have installed the Auto-Snapshot Manager Version 3.4.1.0 on our server here and I want to be able to take smart copies via ASM on this server. When I attempt to create a smart copy set I get the following error: ------------------------------------- Multiple Writer Error: This Smart Copy Set includes components that use different writers. Volumes must be grouped in separate Smart Copy Sets such that each set only uses one writer. Microsoft Exchange Replica Writer components: . . . Microsoft Exchange Writer components: . . . ------------------------------------- I have tried to create a collection that includes only components from one writer, but it will not let me do that as all components are checked or unchecked when I try to click any individual component. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

| TimSchulze | Clarification on MD3000 support for vSphere HA / VMotion | 4 | Today, 4:23 PM EDT by TimSchulze | ||||

Hi,
I've been receiving conflicting information regarding MD3000 support in a vSphere environment. We currently have two R710's setup in a vSphere cluster with two MD3000's that are each direct-attached to both R710's to provide HA / VMotion. Our IT team is saying this configuration works in our dev/test environment but that it is not supported by Dell or VMWare. This would prevent us from using it in a production environment. However, I've found the following links that seem to indicate otherwise: 1) http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/eslvmwre/VS/docs/compat/CompMatx.pdf - this Dell guide lists MD3000 supporting up to 4 hosts and HA/VMotion with ESX 4.x 2) http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?device_cat=san&device_id=4924 - VMWare listing MD3000 as supported and implying that v4.x supports HA/VMotion since 3.x says Active/Passive only but 4.x does not 3) http://communities.vmware.com/thread/213154?start=30&tstart=0 - this post on VMWare communities with the same setup / support question, including a July 2nd, 2009 post that says Jeff Sullivan (SANPenguin) says the MD3000 is fully supported including support for VMotion / HA. The above 3 items seem pretty clear-cut to me, but my IT guys are insistent that they have been told by Dell Gold support that MD3000's are not supported in our desired configuration. I can't understand why Dell support would tell us that this configuration is unsupported when the guides on the web indicate otherwise. Can someone provide clear guidelines on how we could setup two MD3000's in a 2-host vSphere cluster in such a fashion that it would be supported? We need to make a decision on our production setup in the next couple of days, and I want us to have all available options on the table. Thank you, - tim

Question about specific view I am seeing. In the Properties page of each blade, in the section WWN/MAC Addresses, there is a display of port- fabric mapping. For a single slot on Fabric B1 and B2 I am seeing two Gigabit Ethernet connections with separate MAC addresses. How is this possible? Do I have two GB network cards mapped to a single connection on a pass-through panel?
From a server view I am seeing one of those ports being down which makes sense but I am not sure how to read this two GB NICs mapped to a single port.

Currently have SCCM setup and working properly. Trying to install DDP and it is constantly failing. Looking at the _installer.log i'm finding that it fails when trying to create a folder. It is locating the site code properly and the reg key for UI is empty as it should be. I have also tried creating the new tranform file as mentioned previously, but that is not working either. Any help is appreciated.

But i cannot register the reveiced license keys on the www.citrix.com/xenserver/dell website. I get a message that it cannot be processed. The client is also a citrix client. And i as a Citrix service provider can add the licenses on our account but not on the clients account. Where can i get the help to get it registered? thx Dirk |

Hi there,
I am upgrading to 4.1 from 4.0 U1, and I am wondering if using hardware iscsi is better or equal to using the software iscsi solution. Here is some background we have 6 x R610 Servers (2 processors, 32GB ram and 4 x broadcom 5709 1GB iscsi nic) and we have a PS4000X. I have read during the initial setup in 4.0 that I should be using jumbo frames for maximum performance. During the setup of 4.1 the hardware hba's for the 5709 nics I found that it won't accept the jumbo frame configuration and doesn't mount the data stores. Could we confirm this is correct and that the 5709 doesn't support hardware hba and jumbo frames? Secondly can anyone tell me if the hardware hba at a MTU of 1500 will keep up to the software hba with a MTU of 9000?

I am trying to get the Dell Deployment Pack working in my environment without much success.
We are running SCCM 2007 R2 on Windows 2008 x64 SP2 (not R2). I have a new R610 that has been my test system for deploying Windows 2008 x64 SP2. I created a Bare Metal task sequence and have been able to make some progress, but now my deployment is constantly failing. Here’s the sequence of events. I boot the server and hit F12, it comes up and I am presented with the Dell screen. I enter in credentials and a machine name. I exit the HTA and it begins to run the TS assigned to the collection I created for deployment. The TS makes it through Step 1 (“Diskpart clean”, “Set BIOS Config (ini file)”, and “Reboot to PXE/USB” ) and comes back up to run Step 2. It Formats and partitions the disk and then executes the Reboot to PXE/USB step. This appears to go OK and the server reboots, but it does not reboot to PXE and fails with an error “BOOTMGR is missing” press any key to continue. Basically it cannot find it’s boot disk. If I hit F12 after a ctrl-alt-del the TS will pick up and try to finish the install, but fails at “Setup windows and ConfigMgr”. Using F8 I find I have no network connectivity (I’ve tried DHCP and a manual IP in the TS) and looking through the smsts.log all of the drivers failed to load. Which makes sense since the machine basically drops off the network once the Windows install begins. Any ideas? I also have two questions: 1. Where in the documentation does it specify how to configure the two advertisements needed for a deployment? 2. Also on a failed TS that has set the BIOS state how do you clear it? I have simply been running a TS and then stopping it with F8 to run syscfg –b 0

If you are not a very experienced admin you might give one of the commercial solutions available a try. I found the fsmt a bit difficult to use and therefore used Sys-Manage Copyright2. You can download a 30-day trial from their web site: http://www.sys-manage.com/PRODUCTS/CopyRight/tabid/64/Default.aspx and check it.

After upgrading our Exchange 2010 to SP1, the ASM fails on creating snapshots of the mailbox database and public folder database. The error I receive is below. I'm on ASM and Hit Kit version 3.4. I see that 3.4.1 is available and I plan on upgrading but I'm curious to know if 3.4.1 will fix the issue. Snapshots worked just fine before SP1 upgrade.
The recent EqualLogic Smart Copy scheduled to take place has failed. The following errors occurred during the operation: Cannot create Smart Copy: Component 'Public Folder Database (servername)' is excluded - not found on the computer. Component 'MailboxDatabase (servername)' is excluded - not found on the computer. |
